Why drivers want it

Happier rides

Something to do besides staring at a phone. Riders in the back can race each other, and the tablets pair automatically.

A nicer ride experience

A comfortable ride can help with ratings and tips. We make no promises about earnings; results vary by driver and market.

Zero driver effort

Driver Assist tells the tablets when a trip starts and ends, so they reset for the next rider. No tapping while driving.

Private by design

Tablets get only "trip start / trip end / pickup ETA" plus your car code. No rider names, addresses or fares, ever.

Setup guide

  1. Pick a tablet. Any recent Android tablet (8–10") or iPad works. Budget tablets are fine. Choose one with good battery life and a bright screen.
  2. Mount it. Use a headrest mount that clamps to the headrest posts, not one that hangs loose. Make sure it can't block your mirrors or the airbag areas, and that cables can't snag a rider.
  3. Lock it to the app. Android: Settings › Security › App pinning / Screen pinning, then pin Rideshare Mode. iPad: Settings › Accessibility › Guided Access with a passcode, then triple-click to start.
  4. Pair with your car code. When you pair your first tablet, Opps issues a car code unique to you. Enter it on each tablet and in Driver Assist › Car tablets.
  5. Power. Run a USB-C cable from a seat-back or console port. Turn the tablet's screen brightness to auto to reduce heat.

FAQ

Does it collect rider data?

No. The tablets never get rider names, addresses, fares or location. Driver Assist sends only trip start, trip end, pickup ETA minutes, a timestamp and your car code. Games run on the tablet.

Will it drain my phone?

Driver Assist reuses the screen check it already does for offers. It doesn't poll, and each event is a tiny message. The tablets run on their own power.

Is it safe?

You never touch the tablets while driving; they reset by themselves. Mount them securely on the headrest posts, keep sightlines and airbag areas clear, and follow local laws on in-vehicle screens.

Do Uber and Lyft allow in-car entertainment?

Rider amenities like tablets are generally allowed, but platform rules and local regulations change. Check the current Uber/Lyft community guidelines and your city's rules (especially on recording and advertising) before you install. Ride Companion doesn't record audio or video. Driver Assist is not affiliated with Uber, Lyft or DoorDash.

What's a car code?

Your own pairing ID, issued by Opps when you pair your first tablet. It links your tablets to your Driver Assist app and nobody else's.
